“Electronic and experimental music in Asia and Africa” by Cedrik Fermont
The official history of experimental and electronic music is mostly centered on developments in the “West” from the end of the 19th century through the 1960s, and yet, in 1944, the first known piece of African so-called “experimental music” was recorded by Halim El-Dabh in Cairo. This talk addresses the fact that electronic, experimental music, and by extension noise music, cannot been seen as a typically “Western” kind of music. The origins of the very notion of noise music do not entirely belong to “Western” culture, but most probably stem from technology, modernization, and often urbanism. What about non-Western composers of experimental, electronic and noise music, who have been written out of histories? Which culture(s) and which non-Western nations are they influenced by? Are they still maintained under a post-colonial cultural yoke?

Das Projekt "EDUTAINMENT for the Gully People" in Sierra Leone
Worum geht's? Education through Entertainment, dh es sollen Menschen Bildungsinhalte vermittelt werden, die für ihre (Über) leben in einem Slum lebensrettend sind, und zwar spielerisch durch Musik, Theaterstücke, Kunst etc...Ein weiteres Ziel ist es, Kindern den Schulbesuch zu ermöglichen, deren Eltern dies aufgrund ihrer ökonomischen Situation nicht möglich ist.
Wer? 2010 hat Natalie Würbach gemeinsam mit (zumeist obdachlosen) Jugendlichen das Projekt in Freetown, der Hauptstadt Sierra Leones, gegründet:
Was bisher geschah: Um mit unseren Ideen starten zu können, sammelte ich in Deutschland von Freunden, Bekannten und Familie knapp 900 Euro. Hiermit konnten wir 21 Schulkinder mit neu geschneiderten Schuluniformen, sowie Heften und anderen Schreibmaterialen ausstatten.
Diese übergaben wir den Familien an einem “launching day” in Susans Bay Wharf, den wir zuvor mit selbst bemalten Plakaten und über das örtliche Fernsehen angekündigt hatten. Wir involvierten die Bewohner von Susans Bay in die Vorbereitungen, indem wir ihnen die Verantwortung für die Organisation von Stühlen, der Bühne und einer Musikanlage übertrugen. Zum Thema “Hygiene”, mit dem wir unsere Aufklärungskampagne starteten wollten, produzierte Lamin einen Song (“Wash your hands with soap and water”), den er an diesem Tag auf einer Bühne mitten im Slum von Susans Bay aufführte. Passend dazu führten wir außerdem ein kleines Theaterstück auf, bei dem wir den Leuten spielerisch näher bringen konnten, wie wichtig es ist, sich regelmäßig die Hände zu waschen, um Krankheiten vorzubeugen beziehungsweise deren Übertragung zu verhindern. Es war mir außerdem möglich, von “Coca Cola” zehn Kästen Softdrinks als Spende für diesen Tag zu akquirieren. (Dazu muss man wissen, dass Familien in Susans Bay schlichtweg kein Geld dafür haben, ihren Kinder Softdrinks zu kaufen).
Dieser Tag wurde für alle Beteiligten zu einem unvergesslichen Event. Er sollte den Anfang unserer Arbeit bedeuten. Durch unsere stetige Präsenz in der Community und die Zusammenarbeit mit den betroffenen Menschen haben wir Vertrauen aufgebaut, was das Projekt letztlich so erfolgreich werden ließ. Wir wollen auch in Zukunft kontinuierlich an unseren Ideen arbeiten und unsere Ziele verfolgen; dafür sorgen, dass sich die Lebensverhältnisse in Susans Bay durch die veränderte Einstellung der Bewohner verbessern.
Die Arbeit unserer Teammitglieder soll auf lange Sicht eine Einkommensquelle für sie darstellen. Mädchen im Prostitutionsgewerbe sollen die Chance bekommen, als Schneiderinnen ausgebildet zu werden, und langfristig ihren Lebensunterhalt damit zu verdienen. Und die 21 begünstigten Kinder sollen auch in den nächsten Jahren in die Schule gehen können.
Es handelt sich also nicht um eine große Maßnahme mit besonders hohem finanziellem Aufwand, sondern um eine Idee, die mit und bei den Betroffenen entstand und ihre eigene Dynamik entwickelt hat.
Es wurde deutlich, dass es wichtig ist, den betroffenen Menschen zuzuhören, ihren Alltag zu erleben, genau hinzusehen, gemeinsam zu erarbeiten, was die Probleme sind und herauszufinden, wie jeder Einzelne etwas tun kann, um die gesamte Situation zu verbessern. „Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe“ ist unser Ansatz und die Motivation unserer Mitglieder und Offenheit der Bewohner in Susans Bay ist unsere Triebfeder.

Colombia, has never had a biographer. For a very simple reason: his life’s
like an adventure novel that is both incomplete and contradictory. It’s
just based on fragmented reminiscences and anectodes passed on by word of
mouth. Taking Manrique Figueroa’s life as a pretext, this film takes the
viewer on a journey through history from the year 1934 up until 1981, when
the artist mysteriously dissappeared from view.
A Paper Tiger is itself a collage, where art and politics rub shoulders,
where truth and lies are placed side by side, where documentary and

is an audio visual Doomgaze project from Rotterdam
His 2 albums "Still grim up north" & "Beyond the realms of doom" (a
collaboration with Fifth Era) and an e.p ("984") on the California based
Tundra Dubs label got much attention from the still growing witchhouse
scene.
Angst are trying to translate the shoegaze sound into an electronic moody
sludge of reverb filled doooom, creating a soundtrack for the accompanied
visuals.

DEVILMAN
Combining Shige's (Dj Scotch Egg) fuzzed out sound-system bass with the most ferocious of drum programming and
dubwise from Dokkebi Q's Gorgonn, *DEVILMAN* create a sound that is hard to ignore, head nodding yet abrasive,
infectious and expansive noise inflected live-dub destruction.
Just to add to the intensity they are joined by Taigen Kawabe of psych noise freaks Bo Ningen on vocals.
Three individual talents coming together to create a sound truly original in the spectrum of noise and bass music.
The name Devilman is derived from the legendary Japanese comic/animation of the same name and perfectly describes the sound track of a world being turned inside out.
Devilman will release their debut album early in 2012 via 3by3 Records run by Cloaks and home to the likes of JK Flesh and Dead Fader. The album will feature specially commissioned artwork by London based artist Simon Fowler (notable for work with Sunn O))) and Earth amongst others).

Is a collaboration between Martin Maischein, whose releases under the
pseudonym "Heinrich at Hart" on Position Chrome, Sandbenders on Force Inc.
and a lot of other labels are still ringing in a lot of ears, and Robert
Schirmer, a noise rock guitarist, whose bands BUDYET, Gentle Veincut and
Stresseuche have gained much respect over the years.
Their sound moves inbetween contemporary dancemusic like IDM and Dub, but
always evolves into something else, from Drone to Doom, from Industrial to
Noise and Funk.

Bogotrax is an independent festival that combines party, social commitment and transversal experimentation (between party, art and politics...). Bogotrax happens every year, for ten day, in February, in Bogotá, the capital of Colombia. And important part of the project is founded through the parties organized in Berlin. This actions, through which we also try to open some perspectives about the present difficulties of the social movements in Colombia, are in themselves an important constitutive part of the festival : they present possible estates of mind and dynamics already confronted with outernational alternatives for emancipation. Is mainly the possible development of such alternatives that build a general concern.
